FAQs

What should I expect at my evaluation?

The majority of your first visit will be spent getting to know you. I want to learn all about your story, including your symptoms, medical history, surgical history, information about your deliveries (if applicable), etc. I will then complete an extensive orthopedic evaluation which will include a functional movement exam, breathing assessment, strength assessment, and mobility assessment. Based on your symptoms, I will then determine if an internal pelvic exam is warranted. The internal pelvic exam will provide me with vital information about how your pelvic floor is functioning. I will be able to assess the flexibility, strength, and coordination of your pelvic floor muscles to help create an individualized treatment program. The internal exam is never mandatory. After completing the assessment, I will provide ample education about my interpretation of your symptoms and my exam findings. My goal is that you leave your first visit with a new understanding of your anatomy and why you are experiencing your symptoms. Together, we will set goals and determine a treatment plan that works best for you

I’ve been doing my “Kegels”, do I really need Pelvic Floor PT?

It depends! Are you still having symptoms? If so, then yes, a consult would be beneficial! In some cases, Kegel exercises can be helpful in improving pelvic floor function, however, many pelvic floor conditions can be made worse by doing Kegel exercises. Sometimes the pelvic floor muscles are too weak, but sometimes the muscles are either too tight and stiff or they aren’t coordinating well. During your initial evaluation, I will assess your pelvic floor muscles and give you a specific exercise plan to help address your goals.
